There are two ways to measure heat: intensity and quantity. Here's how to tell the difference:
Heat intensity describes how hot something is, measured in Fahrenheit or Celsius. Heat quantity describes a specific amount of heat and is measured in British thermal units or BTUs. By definition, one BTU is how much heat is required to raise one pound of water 1 degree F.
