Air Conditioning/Heating
Systems Calorimeter

The System Calorimeter is used to validate Engineering designs and to optimize the performance of both heater and air conditioning systems. This complete test facility contains two independent chambers. These chambers provide finite control of testing and precise evaluation of air conditioning and heating systemsas well as individual system components.

For example, one chamber can simulate under-hood conditions utilizing a 50hp compressor drive along with a 100 to 12,000 cfm air flow test bench enabling the precise control of temperature, speed and clutch voltage. At the same time, in-cab conditions can be created in the other chamber.

The Heater Evaporator Blower (HEB) room contains two independently controlled air flow test stands with an air flow range of 50 to 1000 cfm and an air temperature range of -20°F to 140°F with humidity control. Twenty system parameters are computer controlled with a tolerance of +/- 1 percent or less. Custom software controls the test and data collection. More than 60 data points can be collected at a rate of up to four times per second. Test reports are customized to include graphs and heat transfer calculations.
